Ashcroft works closely with OEMs and emerging energy providers to develop instrumentation solutions that perform reliably in demanding and evolving applications. In hydrogen systems, factors such as high pressure and vibration require specialized designs to ensure measurement accuracy and long-term durability.

This Use Case demonstrates how a customized pressure gauge solution helped a hydrogen production and distribution company improve reliability and safety in mobile generation systems.

Customer / Application

A hydrogen production, storage, and distribution company operating mobile hydrogen generation systems in the United States. These systems require accurate pressure measurement under high-pressure conditions and constant vibration during transport and operation.

Challenge

The application required pressure gauges capable of ±1% accuracy up to 10,000 psi while withstanding significant vibration. Existing solutions lacked reliability and were not optimized for use with the required anti-vibration fittings. In addition, previous suppliers were unable to accommodate necessary design modifications, limiting performance and delaying implementation.

Engineering Assessment

Ashcroft worked with the customer to evaluate performance requirements, environmental conditions, and installation constraints. The assessment identified the need for a modified process connection that would integrate with anti-vibration fittings, along with a robust gauge design capable of maintaining accuracy in high-pressure and high-vibration conditions.

Solution

Ashcroft developed a customized 8008S Pressure Gauge solution designed specifically for the application. The solution included:

  • A stainless steel pressure gauge with ±1% accuracy per EN837-1

  • An extended medium-pressure LX process connection to support integration with anti-vibration fittings

  • Compatibility with liquid-filled cases to improve performance in high-vibration environments

  • Custom welding, calibration, and pressure testing to meet application requirements

This tailored approach ensured the instrumentation could withstand both the mechanical stresses and performance demands of mobile hydrogen systems.

Result

The customized solution improved gauge reliability and enabled proper integration with anti-vibration fittings, reducing the risk of failure and leakage. The customer benefited from improved measurement performance, increased operational safety, and a responsive engineering partnership that delivered a fit-for-purpose solution within required timelines.

Key takeaway

In emerging energy applications such as hydrogen, standard instrumentation is often not sufficient. Application-specific customization, combined with responsive engineering support, ensures reliable performance under extreme conditions such as high pressure and vibration. Ashcroft works closely with customers to develop solutions that meet both technical requirements and real-world operating challenges.
